Club News
Ron Rosano gave an exciting account of his journey into space aboard the Virgin Galactic Spacecraft earlier this year. Ron gave a detailed account of his training, simulations, and, of course, his trip to the edge of Earth's atmosphere. The trip included several minutes of weightlessness with a video record of the entire experience. Very interesting, indeed.
Members of the club turned out in force to support the Relay for Life and raised over $10K to fight cancer. Luminarias were set up to recognize and honor those who have battled cancer. We salute you all.
RCI has been providing meals and water to the unhoused through St. Vincent's for over 6 years. We were joined at our meeting by Kathleen Woodcock, Chief Philanthropy Officer and Matt Smith, Program Manager of Sober Living Care. They spoke to the club about their meals program and also, their housing program for those in need. St. Vincent serves over 200,000 meals each year to those in need. And have for over 80 years. In addition, they have implemented a housing program for those recovering from alcohol additions. They shared a poignant story of one of their residents who is making strides to turn his life around thanks to their program.
The RCI Foundation and generous club members raised $36,750--which will be matched by a corporate donor to reach $73,500. We're very happy to support their good work.

Zachary "Zeej" Anderson, a Bay Area juggler, circus artist, filmmaker, and educator began the new Rotary Year with feats of balance, juggling and a few "dad" jokes to amaze the and delight the crowd. Working with his capable assistant, he juggled balls (up to 9 at once), bowling pins, cigar boxes and even  knives. Some while balancing items on his chin. Plenty of fun to usher in Doug Hood's presidential year. Let's keep it coming!

All three of the Monarch Butterfly Garden are looking good. With the support of the neighborhood, master gardeners and Marin Parks, the RCI plots are filling in with lots of milkweed and other native plants. While some weeding was needed, the overall impression is lush and welcoming to migrating butterflies. Everyone was very happy with the status and looking forward to summer and plenty of wildlife.
John Marshall, chairman of the American Cancer Society's annual Relay for Life, laid out the program--what it is and how the program is run. The program is to recognize and support those who have been affected by cancer in any form: from people who have beat it, to those who are still fighting it, to those who have been lost. The day-long program has music, games and luminarias recognizing those who have passed. The RCI has been a top supporter of this program in the past. John challenged us to attend and to support the program.
