Gary Gonser and Leonard Weingarten from ESCOM (Emeritus Students College of Marin) presented their FREE program to the club at our last meeting. The group offers over 20 special interest clubs, monthly speakers computer workshops and in-person events at the two College of Marin campuses. Plenty of fun activities for a variety of interests are available for members. www.escom.marin.edu for more information.
Ivar Olsen, Leonard Weingarten and Gary Gonser.
Dale Kline, President and Christina Mendes, Chief Executive Officer of the Novato Chamber of Commerce spoke to the club about developments, challenges and priorities at the Chamber. Member of the club engaged them in a lively discussion about broadening the reach of the chamber. It was an excellent discussion with plenty to think about for all groups.
Rotarians from 8 clubs (including RCI) participated in a work day at North Bay Children's Center in Hamilton. over 40 volunteers turned out to weed, spread garden cloth and mulch, and build flower and vegetable beds for the "Garden of Eaten". Included in that number were several high schoolers from the local Rotaract Club. There will be plenty more work days ahead. But, the group made good progress on Phase 1.
Three members of RCI (and one from Novato Rotary) shared their experiences in Ecuador last month. Two water filtration systems were installed providing thousands of liters of clean water to two rural villages. Additionally, over 1,500 glasses were distributed. And the RACHEL classroom learning program was introduced. The trip featured 17 people from both Districts 5150 and 5170 and were supported by the local Rotary Club in Ecuador.
US Congressman Jared Huffman answered questions from the club in a wide ranging discussion of all things political. From tariffs to family farms, he shared his insights and opinions on the state of play in Washington, DC as well as local issues. Always helpful to get the answers from someone who's "in the room where it happens". Thank you, Congressman.
