MEETING MINUTES, 27 September, 2007 at Inn Marin, Ignacio

Submitted by Charles Swensen

September is Publicity month

The third meeting in the third month of the reign of our president, John, was called to order at 1232.  Following the pledge led by Larry Curtis, Daryl Weinroth Levy offered the invocation (no thought was provided today).

Announcements

-Mat Pavone, reminded all of the TGIF at Kirk Hylan’s house on 28 September.

-Gary Gonser put in a pitch for the play, The Seven Year Itch.

-Bill Kelly reminded everyone of the TGIF at Kirk Hylan’s place Friday at 1730.  Appletini’s & Cosmos for everyone (please walk home).

Don’t forget the District 5150 fundraiser aboard HMS Hornblower on Sunday, 7 October to watch the Blue Angels perform for Fleet Week.  Pauline Stuber and President John Marshall are trying to drum up support for a limo to take everyone.

-Larry Levy (vocational chair) has organized a speaker’s program at Marin Oaks H. S.  He requests that members sign up for presentations.

Marin Community center will host a grand opening of its latest clinic at 3110 Kerner Blvd., 1730 on Thursday, 11 Oct.  Contact President John Marshall

-Jim Picchi’s daughter, Carissa will be running the Nike Women’s Marathon on behalf of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and seeks financial support.

-Jack Marshall will place an order with DG Brian McLeran for Paul Harris frames at the rock bottom price of $20.

Minnow meals:

-Garry Gast, Fred Pfeifer, Bill Doughty, Bill Kelly and Larry Curtis were all fined for their Croatian sailing excursion.  No additional fine was levied on their long suffering spouses.  They have been encouraged to put on a program (except for Bill Kelly who is not expected to remember any of it).

-Garry Gast was also fined for his anniversary (he certainly should have been for re-enacting his honeymoon with a half dozen of his best friends).

-John Griffin has plans to celebrate his 44th anniversary in Florida.  The notes submitted were not clear if Nancy would be accompanying him.

-Jerry Ghirardo remembered that his wife had an unidentified birthday on 13 September.  No mention was found in the notes as to how he celebrated it.

-Fran O’Brien was close enough, defining doyen as the senior most member of a group (works for me).

The Minnow had some extra time which he dedicated to “rat on a friend.”

Having no friends to do it for him, Roland Fuette announced that he had shaved two strokes off his golf score (he stopped counting penalty strokes).

-Tony Elshout stepped into the breach and ratted on Pauline Stuber’s new (7 week old) Mercedes.

Speaker/Program

The program for this meeting was a DVD of past RI President Cliff Dochterman's speech about "The Friendly Fire of Rotary," featuring his dancing dais!!!!  Seriously, though, his speech addressed ways that we -- as a club as well as individually - may be unwittingly discouraging people from becoming members, or even staying members, in various
ways (like being us).  Fran O'Brien, Membership Chair offered some thoughts and comments, citing Cliff's Three Way Test:  Is it fun?  Will it harm anyone?  Will we get caught?  She reminded us that when we increase our membership,
it makes for lighter work...have you brought an eligible guest lately?  ASK, ASK, ASK - "Get your 'ask' in gear!!!"  Questions?  Please call Fran at 883-6612.
