MEETING MINUTES October 21, 2004 at Inn Marin, Ignacio

Submitted by Suzanne Bales

Gina Grant led the pledge with Pastor Stan adding words of wisdom.  The population was a bit sparse, due to Chidlaw’s Whistlestop lunch at exactly the same time.  Some Rotarians committed to that and it did count as a meeting.

Visiting Rotarians

Bill Kelly introduced Novato’s new city Manager, Dean Keen.  Richard Arrow, Terra Linda Rotary and our county auditor.  Cal Farnsworth, Mission San Rafael, moving and storage, Forrest Craig, Novato, Fire Protection and David Kapranos, Novato, construction.

Announcements

Cal Farnsworth reminded us of the golf tournament November 11th, Veterans Day.  Hole in one brings home a new car!

November 6th District Fundraiser.  Again, the club will absorb half the cost for the first 10 that sign up.

Work party October 30th, Scottsdale Pond.  Work hard for Rotary and then get pampered at the Gasts October Fest.

Shark Time

Michael Fish was shark of the day.  Everyone not wearing the Rotary pin chipped in a buck.  Bob Kane was fined for a trip to New York City that involved a ship to Montreal.

Fish also got Bob Carpenter for duck blind activity.  There are now 100 decoys out to lure in the unsuspecting ducks.  Michael Fish also told on himself for his hard hard work at the Rotary Zone Institute in Hawaii with Rotary International.  I don’t know-he looked awfully tan!

Speaker

Gene Thomas was the speaker of the day.  His business, Lifespan Video Portraits seeks to create a legacy for those generations that follow.  His past experience in TV work and public broadcasting make him a natural for this.

He emphasized the elderly are our limited resource and when they are gone it is like the library burned down.  He brings out not just the facts of someone’s life, but the emotional content as well.

When an intimate videotaped portrait is captured it creates a double gift-knowledge of that person and a treasure to share for future generations.  The past has brought us to where we are.  The past should be acknowledged and remembered before it is too late.
