MEETING MINUTES October 13, 2005 at Inn Marin, Ignacio

Submitted by Suzanne Bales

Jim Picchi led the pledge while Reverend Stan intoned the prayer and recognized Yom Kipper.

One of the moments that you had to be there:

Greg Chidlaw was our stand in leader.  So no one missed the point he was adorned in gold robe, sparkling crown and some type of feathered duster for his scepter.  The red shark tie just topped off the entire outfit!  He immediately took charge in a dictatorial fashion.

Visiting Rotarians

Bill Kelly introduced visiting Rotarians:

Paul Simmons, Bob Gronski, Cully Kasey and Dave Kapronos-(all names questionably spelled – sorry).

Guests

Rich Ronsheimer was the guest of shark Chidlaw but needed to depart before being recognized.

Announcements

Kirk Hyland announced the Rotaracts 1st annual Halloween Bash, Oct. 29th, Novato Days Inn, $31 per ticket-food, drinks, costume contest, silent auction and raffle. 7-11pm For tickets, email tickets@novatorotaract.org.

Jerry Ghirardo reminded us of the Rotary Foundation Dessert Auction on November 5th.

Gary Gast offered a chance to add to your wardrobe-Ignacio Rotary shirts are in-small to xxxl $15 per shirt.  Bring your money to the next meeting and get yourself outfitted!

Susan Gilmore gleefully stated her 16th annual fall fundraising event for North Bay Children's Center is completely sold out.  Where Rotarians did have a chance to help out is sign up for the October 29th poolside party at Catheryne DiPrete's Bel Marin House.  Margaritas, bonfires, hot tubbing-$50 pp goes to North Bay CC.

Matt Pavone stated captains meetings are going just fine.  Pastor Stan gets the nod for being the first to turn in an auction item-a free wedding-King Greg blanched at that one and Luann wanted to know if it came with a groom.

Dennis Pepin is on top of the wine tour and it is going to be great!

Fine Time

Standard $1 fine for those without pins.

Susan Gilmore was back up again, being recognized for her '98 induction.

Larry Levy got it for Yom Kipper and celebration of Hilloah's birthday.  When Chidlaw heard they were going to Tahoe Donner to celebrate - he couldn't help himself so he stepped on the Bear's toes and imposed a double fine.

Larry Curtis fined for a golfing trip to Mesquite Nevada and St George Utah.  Had to cut the trip short for a trip to Denver to visit his critically ill mother-she turned for the positive so good end to the story.  Separate later trip celebrated a CU reunion-go Buffs!

Speaker

Stan Dennison, head of vocational services, introduced two of our own to discuss their careers:

Larry Levy started as a rookie police officer doing vice squad.  On to Youth Guidance Center at SF Juvenile Hall then to Marin County as a probation officer.  Worked with major rock groups then on to Bechtel.  This varied background led to specializing in 1989 in his own human resources consulting business.  Larry writes employee handbooks, helps with recruiting, solves problems with employees or managers.  He does have a support group of @12 he pulls on for specific advice.

Larry is thrilled with his job and every morning is excited to face a new and different day.  He also offered to help any Rotarian at any time with any personal issues.

Don Wichman was next up.  Don a member for 19 years, graduated from Cal State Northridge with a CPA degree.  After being comptroller of a computer firm he got involved with Bill Graham Presents, as a CPA.  In 1986 he opened his own firm, next door to Bill Kelly.  Guess who talked him into joining?  There were some comments on Nave's Bowling Alley being the guess the meat location for the meetings.  Two months after joining he moved right up to the Rotary's Treasurer position where he stayed for a number of years.

Sold his practice to Greg Call around the time his daughter was born.  We got to see examples of his sponsored soft ball teams.  Don Wishman CPA "Waivers" T shirt  was huge then  toned down the team shirs a bit for Don Wishmans "Calculators"  Got to hear about all the Rotary softball team injuries as well.  Makes me want to join the team!

Don talked about what a special time it was working with a man like Bill Graham.

Now Don is with First Security Loan, signing 800-1000 checks a month.

Not sure about the raffle winner.

Remember those donations for Monte Carlo!
