MEETING MINUTES, November 8,
2007 Meeting called to order by the "Inn Keeper" President John Marshall Pledge led by and invocation by: Pledge led by Greg Call and the Thought for the day by Marie "don't eat those cookies" Borders Visiting Rotarians Our only visiting Rotarian was Dean Heffelfinger from Novato Guests of Rotarians Peter DiPrete was the guest of his better half (and our member!) Catheryne Di Prete. Peter was at the meeting to take a picture of Catheryne receiving her Paul Harris Fellow from Past President and Foundation Chairman Jerry Ghirardo. Congratulations Catheryne and thanks for joining us Peter. Special recognition/induction/awards: Larry Curtis and Rich Ronsheimer were recognized by President John for each bringing in a new member this year. They each received a "Four Way Test" coin. Will receive a special pin and $50.00 each towards their annual sustaining Paul Harris contribution. Announcements: President John wanted to recognize Wendy Irving and Bill Doughty for joining him for the Stafford Grove Park Dedication. Bronco Bill Kelly told us that our invitation to the December 1, 2007 Holiday Party at Hotel Mac was in the mail. Semi-formal, $50.00 per person includes a great dinner and dancing. Also as is the tradition, the name of the President Elect-Elect will be announced that night. Bronco also announced that the November 16th TGIF at Pacheco Theater would include the play "She Loves Me" and a light dinner plus wine tasting. This is $25.00 per person. For those who signed up, please get your check to Bill. For those who would like to go but have not signed up, please contact Bill. Melissa Rinck announced the Mackey Terrace holiday party would be December 6th between 5:00 and 7:00 PM. Doug DeSalvo thanked the club but especially Bill Doughty, Jim Picchi, and Steve Minutoli for making his home compatible to the needs of his daughter, Alanna. He also said that the fundraiser last Thursday for Alanna was a great success! Paul Hutcheson announced that contributions for the annual Rotary insert in the Novato Advance were the largest ever. He thanked the club for its contribution. Dean Moser announced that the Miss Marin finals would be at Dominican College on November 18th starting at 3:00 PM. Fine Time/Recognition: Daryl "LG" Weinroth was all fired up as he immediately ordered Doug De Salvo to grab the money (Doug had to work fast and hard as the LG was on a roll). The following victims (sorry I mean Rotarians) were recognized: Susan Gilmore for her 20th Anniversary to Pete, Pete's birthday, and an award at the North Bay Leadership council for innovative community building Dave"Spanky" Pitchford for Vicki's birthday Fred Pfeifer for Lynn's birthday and for dragging Lynn not only to a 49er game but an away 49er game! Dean Moser only paid a buck for his induction and the fact that Paul Harris was his sponsor. Daryl fined himself for his birthday which was last week (we aren't sure where the money went!). Larry Curtis was recognized for his 44th Anniversary with Ramona and his vacation to Detroit. Bruce Moeller was fined for moving his office and his Vegas trip with Don Wichman Paul Hutcheson was recognized for his trip with his falcons to Eastern Oregon. As Daryl had not recognized the whole room (although he was close), he got the rest of us because we couldn't do a swim stroke exercise from our beds. Dean Moser paid for those who actually could do the exercise (they were the members that could not lift hands in the air) Larry Curtis was the secret hand shaker. Speaker (Program) The speaker today was our own Jerry Ghirardo. November is Rotary Foundation month. Right after presenting Catheryne DiPrete with her Paul Harris, Past President Jerry (our Foundation Chairman), told us about the Rotary foundation and all that it does in the world. He said the motto is "Our World, what could it be?" Our own club was able to recently leverage a $3,000 donation into $21,350 with matching grants for a project to upgrade three schools and enhance the water supply in Bali. The mission of the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty. Jerry told us that the President of Rotary International has been able to go to places throughout the world in the cause of World Peace where Political leaders of countries could not go due to War or politics. Our club and our members have been strong supporters of the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. To learn more about the foundation please go to www.Rotary.org. Raffle ticket won by: Don Cliver (our newest member) but not the right marble.
