MEETING MINUTES November 18, 2004 at Hamilton Chapel

Submitted by Garry Gast

President Garry opened the meeting at the Hamilton Chapel.  Bruce Moeller led us in the Pledge and Pastor Stan gave the invocation and “thought for the day.”

Guests of Rotarians

Guests of Rotarians were Jessica and Ben Wasserman, wife and son of soon-to-be-inducted Art WassermanGarry’s wife, Lori, was also in attendance.

Announcements

President Garry thanked John Marshall and Forks and Fingers for arranging our meeting and delicious lunch (spicy chicken).

Club Service Chair, Fred Pfeifer, announced the Holiday Dinner with our fellow Novato Rotary clubs will be December 3rd at the Marin Country Club - $45 per person.  Send your checks to Fred or pay at the event.  The Holiday Party will be in lieu of our regular meeting that week, so you must make up if you cannot attend the party.

Daryl reported that the Centennial Project at Scottsdale Pond is moving along nicely.  After a show of hands, it was decided that the work party scheduled for November 20th (same day as the Big Game – Go Bears!) will be moved ahead to Saturday, November 27th at 9:00am.  Bring picks to help dig small trenches for irrigation lines.

Larry (Mr. Community Service) Curtis announced that we collected over $700 for the Novato Human Needs Center Holiday Food Drive.  Fantastic!

Foundation Chair, Jerry Ghirardo, announced that his son, James Edward (“Giacamo”), is sleeping better at night, thus giving his mom and dad a break.  Jerry says that first time Paul Harris Fellowships can receive up to $250 toward the $1,000 goal up until December 31, 2004.  i.e., if you have contributed at least $750, Rotary International will contribute the remaining money to bring it up to $1,000.  Many thanks for the generosity of a couple whom designated the money for this purpose.

Two Rotary District events coming up are:

1.         Rotary International President Glen Estes’ dinner in Sacramento, January 3rd.

2.         District Ethics Forum, “Ethics in our Society” January 15th at the South San Francisco Conference Center, 8:00am – 4:00pm.  $50 per person.

Dean Moser introduced Art Wasserman who was inducted into the club.  Art was a past member and president of Ignacio Rotary.  His son, Ben, was born on April 12, 1976, the day our club received its charter.  Welcome back, Art!  Art is a CPA with offices in Bel Marin Keyes.

Shark Time

We did have recognition however we do not have the information for the minutes.

Speaker

Today was a club assembly led by Monte Carlo Chair, Greg Chidlaw.  Greg gave an accounting of where we are now and where we have to go to insure a very successful Monte Carlo in March.  Discussion regarding Profit and Loss, and adding of live auction, fantastic decorations, a dine-around, etc. could more than double our net income from this wonderful event and our major fundraiser.

Rocky announced that our final deadline for the donor forms for live auction items is December 15th.  They can then be listed on our website, and printing of the auction booklet can begin.

It was emphasized that silent auction items need to be obtained, and they will be listed in an insert that will go into the main booklet closer to the actual event on March 5th.  We hope to have about 15 live auction items, and 75-150 silent auction items.  Although we are not discouraging smaller items from the silent auction, we are putting an emphasis on getting higher-end items.

Kudos to Greg and everyone who is working to make this the best Monte Carlo ever!
