Speaker/Program

Gary Bramon and Phil Brown,

            Topic:  Civil War 1861 – 1865

Speaker:  Gary Bramon and Phil Brown - Novato Rotary.

We were treated to a short slide show:   Tour of Shiloh National Military Park in Tennessee.  4 –5.5 million fought in the Civil War with 600,000 dying, during the battles and of infections.

Then fully uniformed Captain Phil Brown entered the room.  The setting was September 1863, with an announcement for a forum to enlist in the Army to protect our California Coast, especially the San Francisco Bay; the gold that comes to California.  The 1st Confederation Vessel to be confiscated during the Civil War was in the San Francisco Bay. 2 total! All to protect “we hold these truths to be self-evident, all men are created equal and have certain inalienable rights:  Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

(Re-enactments of Civil War on Angel Island are every Sat. and Sun. thru 11/07)
