The next Board Meeting will be Tuesday, May 10th at Bank of Marin, 378 Bel Marin Keys Blvd. at 5:00pm.

A sign-up sheet was passed around for the Literacy Program at Loma Verde School.  Thank you to all those who volunteered.

There will be no regular meeting on Thursday, May 12th because of the Fireside.

FIRESIDE at HORSEMEN’S

The Fireside will be held on Thursday, May 12th at the Novato Horsemen’s Arena (grounds and clubhouse), 600 Bugeia Lane. This casual get-together is for members, spouses and/or significant others.  The barbecue will feature Fred’s famous steaks and Roland’s famous beans.  Cocktails 6:00pm, dinner 7:00pm.  Bring your favorite (clean!) joke or funny story to tell.  Take Atherton Avenue to Bugeia Lane.  The Memorial Park will be on your left.  Turn left just after the Memorial Park.

Thursday, June 2nd will be dark (no meeting) because of the joint meeting with the Novato and Novato Sunrise clubs on Friday, June 3rd.  This joint meeting will be to meet the Group Study Exchange Team from Mexico.  It will be held at the Margaret Todd Senior Center at 12:15pm.

Garry introduced the College of Marin Dental Assisting Scholarship recipients, Larisa  Mukhina and Samantha Nunez.  Grace Hom, Chairperson of the Program, thanked the club for the scholarships.

We welcomed newest member, John Tanko, into the Rotary Club of Ignacio.  Induction Ceremony followed.  John has lived in the area for 26 years and his business is equipment leasing.  He also plays a mean clarinet and saxophone in Rob’s band. Welcome, John and Darby!

Speaker

Our speaker was Mary Kay Sweeney, Executive Director of Homeward Bound.  She said that the whole meaning of Homeward Bound is to end homelessness.  80 people live at the facility, where they work and learn income-producing job skills training.  Many of the residents are trained at the (on site) Fresh Starts Culinary Academy.  We enjoyed a delicious Cinco de Mayo meal, prepared and served by the residents.

Development Director, Leslie Lauren, spoke about future plans to build an additional building, which will provide more housing and employment training.  The new culinary training kitchen will be much larger and will have adjoining classrooms and meeting space.  Everyone is invited to attend Homeward Bound’s 5- year BIRTHDAY PARTY.  It will be on Saturday, May 14th from 10:00am – noon at the New Beginnings Center, 1399 North Hamilton Parkway.  There will be tours of the facility, great food, and  entertainment for kids (have your picture taken on the Wells Fargo Stagecoach!).
