MEETING MINUTES March 9, 2006 at Inn Marin, Ignacio

Submitted by Rich Ronsheimer

Meeting was called to order by President Tony Elshout, who asked George Dray to lead us in the Pledge and Pastor Stan give the invocation and thought for the day.

Visiting Rotarians

Ricki Intwell Lt. Governor and from Fisherman’s Wharf and Paul Simmons from the Mission San Rafael club.

Guests

Daryl “Little Petite Guy” Weinroth introduced Ron Weller the Property Manager from Vintage Oaks as his guest.  Bob Carpenter introduced his better half, Betty “birthday girl” Carpenter as his guest.

Announcements

Bill Doughty reported on the Rotary International Ski trip that was held in Alaska and also attended by Gary Gast, Steve Minutoli, and Jim Picchi.  I know it is hard to believe this about members of our club, but Bill reported that they had a great time.

Fine Time

Rob “the Griz” Sundberg recognized (or was that terrorized) the following Rotarians who went away with a lighter wallet:

Rocky Cosgrove shocked the club by remembering his induction date and sponsor (still cost him), Phil Snell offered up for his bride, Ellen’s birthday, Anna Levinson offered a donation for Bernie’s birthday, Chuck “Wood Chuck” Swensen paid for having a great trip to England, Shelly Klaner paid for a business trip (or so she says!) to Florida, and Bob Carpenter donated for Betty’s birthday as the club sang “Happy Birthday to her (not a bad sound either, I just moved my lips to make it sound better)

Speaker/Program

Lt. Governor Ricki announced that the District Conference would be held at the Doubletree Hotel in Rohnert Park from April 20 through April 23.  (Editors note: The District Conference is the time for our club to celebrate the year of President Tony and show our support for Tony and the club leadership.  It would be nice to see a big group of Ignacio Rotarians attend.  MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND PLEASE REGISTER NOW)

President Elect Larry Curtis, all pumped up from President Elect Training (PETS) was impressed by the training that he received last weekend.  He said that he learned that “leading the club is like herding cats, all you have to do is move the food”.  So he is going to move the food line as his first official act.  He did ask us all to keep Thursday, May 11 open in the evening (we will be dark that day at the club) for mini firesides.

Greg” the Shark” Childlaw otherwise known as Monte’s father, expects us to net something north of $80M at this Saturday’s 19th annual Monte Carlo night.  I am sure by the time that you read this bulletin that we will be talking about the success of the event. Greg thanks in advance for your leadership on this.

Finally last but certainly not least, It was very exciting to have Barry Bonds as our special guest at today’s meeting.  Boy he sure looks big!!! As you know he is on line to break the homerun record and it was very nice for him to stop by our meeting before he heads back to Scottsdale for Spring Training.  If you missed today’s meeting, you missed this surprise.

Come to the meeting next week, you never know who will show up if not in person then in the mind of the writer.  BG
