Announcements

Fred Pfeiffer reminded us about he 30th anniversary dinner on Saturday, April 29 at 6 pm at Inn Marin.  The dress for the evening is no Hawaiian shirts or jeans.  There will be cocktails, dinner and dancing.  Larry Curtis’ band will be performing.

Fine Time

The Bear had Matt Pavone share about his 51st birthday doings.  Breakfast at Half Day, baseball with the children, who also decided they should see the Shaggy Dog movie and then Tony’s oysters at Marshall.

Tony Elshout shared his 66th birthday saga with us about flying to Las Vegas and the expensive dinner he had to buy for his friends (an old Dutch custom).

Peter Pelham was acknowledged for his promotion to executive vice president for the Bank of Marin and his upcoming vacation to England and Italy and his upcoming birthday.

Marie Borders shared that on 3-24-06 it was the 24th anniversary of her and Jeff’s first date.  They met in Mr. Wright’s geometry class, their sophomore year in high school.

Speaker/Program

Our speaker was Dr. David Taylor a local psychiatrist.   He shared about how it was important to maintain our mental health, similar to physical health.  The three important things to do are:

Doing things that are pleasurable to you.

Exercise – need to provide your brain with enough nutrients, helps with energy and decreases depression.  Also the need to get outside so you have enough luts.  Luts refer to the effect of indoor lights verses the sun.

Getting enough sleep – good sleep hygiene is necessary.  This includes regular schedule, wake up and bedtime the same every day, no caffeine or alcohol before bedtime, let your mind slow down – no T.V. or computer work.  If you wake up in the night – you should get up, use few lights, read something boring and don’t look at the clock.

The other important reason he was here was to talk about suicide prevention.  This is destructive to society.  Those who are more likely to commit suicide are teens and older while males.  Most are impulsive and later wish they had not attempted suicide.  Many feel that a barrier is needed on the Golden Gate Bridge because it is considered by many the number one place to commit suicide, about 2 per month.  Studies are being done about a barrier.
