Saturday is a median strip work party.  Bring gloves and tools to clean up the strip and check the irrigation.

Jody Fischer, works for B of A in Novato, has a friend whose daughter is in need of a bone morrow transplant.  Saturday there is an opportunity to sign up to be a bone marrow donor at St. Vincent’s off 101 in Marinwood.

The interact group leaves Saturday for Mexico.  Needs 2-3 people to drive down and/or back.  You don’t have to stay – Michael Fish will fly them down or back.  Sunday, April 8 and on Saturday, April 14 are the dates we need people to drive.

Speaker/Program

Kathryn Najafi-Tagol, MD, from the Eye Institute of Marin, spoke to us about Seeing Well as You Grow Older.

1 out of 3 individuals have some vision loss by age 65.  This creates some consequences.  Common causes are macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataract and diabetic retinopathy.

Everyone should have a comprehensive eye exam from 40 years on.

Glaucoma is damage to the optic nerve.  Most people have not systems, which is why exams are so important for early detection.  Everyone should learn about the risk factors.  There are a variety of treatments for glaucoma.  Early detection, treatment and close follow up is important to prevent blindness.

Cataracts form on the lenses.  This is one of the most common causes of vision loss.  A lens is replaced and can be mono or multi focal.  It is a fairly routine procedure and recovery is very rapid.

A diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables help your eyes stay healthy, plus including rich leafy vegetables and carrots.  Sunglasses are very important to help keep UV rays out.  Also exercise is important for eye health.

Drawing

The drawing was won by Carlton Prince and he drew a clear marble.
