MEETING MINUTES March 2, 2006 at Inn Marin, Ignacio

Submitted by Denis Pepin

President Tony “gonged” the meeting to order at 12:40 P.M.

After the Pledge (Susan Gilmore) and Invocation (Reverend Stan), Dick O’Brien introduced the visiting Rotarians:

            Dave Jones – Novato

            Klif Knoles – San Rafael

Announcements

John Tanko reminded us of the Blood Drive at Inn Marin on March 30th.   He passed the sign up sheet…did you commit?  Save the Date and your blood!

Monte Carlo Update – NOTE: FINAL REVIEW NEXT WEEK…BE THERE!

-About 320 tickets sold…need 80 more from the members.  STUBS NOW OVERDUE…GET THEM IN OR ENTER ON-LINE!

-Make sure to change the Minimum Bid in our program book for the Costa Rica Eco-Tour (Item 9) to $2,000.

-Wendy needs you to “proof read “ her Silent Auction Supplement, particularly those related to your donators.  NOW and report to her promptly!

Fine Time

“The Griz” nailed a few people for various infractions like:

-John Tanko – 5th Anniversary (Darby must be a saint)

            -Bob Finer – Birthday

            -Bob Carpenter – Induction Anniversary

-Rich Ronsheimer – The “perpetual” birthday

Speaker/Program

Dean Moser introduced our Guest speaker, Dr. Seth Shostak from the SETI Institute.  Wow, was he ever a “shot in the arm”.  The search for “ET” is alive and well.  Some of the snippets he left us with are:

-We now have a complete understanding of biology (Solved the Human Genome).

-By 2020, the computer will exceed the human brain in capability.

-There is no proof of intelligent beings anywhere in the universe.

-Did you know the earth was 4.5 billions years old?

-Oldest life is 3.5 billion years old.

-Sheer size of the universe suggests that there may be life elsewhere.

-Lastly, we are just a small part of the “Big Show”!

A great  program, seemingly enjoyed by all.
