Announcements

Michael Fish informed us that each week someone will recite the Four-Way test at the beginning of the meeting as a reminder of the principals that guide us.

John Marshall informed us about the Dog Days of Summer fundraiser, which benefits the Marin Human Society’s Pen Pals Program at San Quentin.  If you look like your dog, and don’t just act like him, pay just $10 to enter your dog into the dog/owner look-alike contest and other pet games.  The event will be held on Sunday, August 14th, from 11am to 3pm at Rickey’s Restaurant & Inn Marin.  Call (415) 883-9477 for more information.

Fred Pfeifer reminded us that we will be having a Fireside at the Cacti Restaurant on August 17 – this is a Wednesday.

Wendy Irving announced Labor Day at the Lake, Sunday Sept. 4th.  We get to staff the beer and wine booth this year, and we need volunteers for one of two shifts:  4pm to 7pm, and 7pm to 9:30pm.  See Wendy to sign up.

Dennis Pepin announced on October 22 will be our wine tour.  Bring your checks to reserve your spot!  $65 per person.

Daryl Weinroth announced the Novato Rotary Club’s annual golf tournament will be on Friday, September 9.  If you would like to be a part of a 4-some please let him know.  Lunch/Golf/Dinner is $150 per person.

Fine Time

Rob “the Bear” Sundberg recognized

Art Wasserman for his 62nd birthday, spent at the fair.

Bob Kane for his 34th anniversary on July 10th

Bill Doughty celebrated his birthday “week”, enjoying a massage and dinner prepared by his son, among other things.

Bob Finer celebrated his wife’s 62nd birthday.  His “genius” grandson has the same birthday, so they all went to Chuckie Cheese and tried to avoid the cholesterol.

Pastor Stan was honored in the Novato Parade as a WWII veteran.

Suzanne Bales and Jim Hickey both received their Blue Badges.

Speaker

District Governor Holly Axtell was our speaker, and her topic was not “Come to more District Meetings”, but she did remind us that there is a District Rotary Foundation Event on November 5th at the Crown Plaza in Foster City, and the District Conference next year will be held April 20-23 at the Sonoma Wine Country Doubletree.

The focus of Holly’s speech was on reminding us that we are the ones who make Rotary happen.  There are 39 clubs in District 5150, and some terrific projects going on.  She encouraged us to get involved in the focus on Children & Education by sponsoring a child to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Program (Camp Enterprise) at Marin Headlands, or participating in the International Youth Exchange Program.  She also encouraged us to get involved in one of the World Community Service projects and to visit another country to get first hand experience with projects like Rotoplast, Project Amgio, Alliance For Smiles, Ecuador Village Bank, or a Project Fair.  She also reminded us to think big because “Rotary Opens Doors”.
