MEETING MINUTES July 27, 2006 at Inn Marin, Ignacio

Submitted by Art Wasserman

President Larry Curtis called the meeting to order at 12:24.

Michael Fish led the pledge and Larry Levy gave the invocation.

Visiting Rotarians

Suzanne Bales and Dave Kapronos both from Novato

Guests

Jessica Wasserman was Art Wasserman’s guest.

Announcements

Larry Levy sadly reported that Vicki Pitchford’s mother died and offered prayers for her.

Pauline Stuber introduced Cleo Gause from the Novato Unified School District.  Cleo is involved with the Safe Schools Committee.  Cleo spoke and described the program, which includes the Canine (K-9) Program, which involves drug-sniffing dogs.  Cleo was presented with a check for $1,000.  Our Monte Carlo dollars in action.

President Larry announced that Dave Pitchford is the Youth Services Director and Bob Carpenter will be in charge of the Interact Club.

Rich Ronsheimer announced that he has a full slate of people signed up for craft talks.

Our Rotary Cal football game has been changed – we will be going to see Garry Gast’s Oregon Ducks.  E-mail Roland Fuette for details.

Wendy Irving is looking for volunteers to sell tickets at Labor Day at the Lake- It is for Labor Day Sunday- Let Wendy know when you will be available.

Jack Marshall asked for a show of hands for members who would be interested in a salmon fishing trip on Saturday August 26.  Let him know if you want to go.

Michael Fish announced that we have a bocce ball event on Sunday August 27th.  Sign up with Michael if you are interested.

Fred Pfeifer attended the Squirt Program and was impressed- great turnout and participation in sweltering heat.  He gave our check for $500- more Monte Carlo good works.

Fran O’Brien announced that August was membership month.  Look for good people who might be interested in Rotary and invite them to a meeting.

On August 26 the 5:30 Friday Afternoon Club will be held at the Pitchford’s.

Garry Gast, a member of the Rotary International Ski Committee (sounds more like fun than service) presented a flag from the “I did not get the name club” in Alaska.

Fine Time

Recognition Master Rob Sundberg took the floor.

Larry Levy was recognized for his induction- his was within 2 years of the correct date.

The O’Brien’s were recognized (again) for their anniversary.

Art and Jessica Wasserman were recognized for their birthdays.

Michael Fish also was recognized for his birthday and gave a free plug for John Marshall’s Rickey’s Restaurant.

Jim Picchi and Wendy Irving also were recognized for their birthdays.

Bob Finer and Bill Doughty also had recent birthday celebrations.

With all the birthday’s a rousing happy birthday was sung, sort of.

I think this scribe can speak for all and suggest that these damn BD’s keep on coming too fast.

Young Jerry Ghirardo was recognized for his 19th anniversary, a new car and the Italian World Cup win. Jerry did not play.

Daryl Weinroth scoffed at Jerry’s 19 years and announced that Patrice has had to put up with him 3 more years than Laura has had to suffer with Jerry.

Finally Catherine Munson was recognized for a picture in the paper- She attended a fund raising luncheon for Hospice.

The coffers of the club were certainly fattened by all of these recognitions.  Keep those checks coming- the Club needs the $$$$$$$.

Speaker/Program

The speaker was our very own Catherine Munson, who in March took an incredible trip through Stanford University.  It was a rich and educational trip- she was gone for a month, but told us Stanford has shorter trips as well.

She passed out beautiful 8x10 photos as she spoke without notes-

The trip included Sabratha & Leptis Magna in Libya, Marrakech Morroco, Tripoli, the Lost City of Petra, Jordan, Sri Lanka, Seoul South Korea, Da Nang and Hui An in Vietnam, Taipai, Taiwan and Iran.

Hard to describe the trip- you had to be there.

Catherine did not have time to cover the whole one month trip in the ½ hour allotted- I for one would love the have Catherine II the sequel.  Great talk Catherine.

President Larry reminded us that on Thursday, August 3 Mark Flegel the DG will be our speaker.

Raffle

Not sure who won the raffle.

Do the right thing

Thank you Art for doing the minutes – next week (tomorrow) Matt Pavone has volunteered.

Do the thing right

Thank to all of you who have sent in or given me your spotlight information – I almost have enough to move into “the Having FUN doing it” box.  J

Having FUN doing it!

Rob Sundberg will again be at Rickey’s on Friday, August 4th, from 6:30 – 9:30 pm.

Member Spotlight – I would love for everyone to send me your high school and college mascots – I should have added that to the original request, however I didn’t think about it until someone suggested it.  I thing it will be very important to know how many “Tigers” we have in our midst.  (Guess whose high school and college mascot was a tiger?)

Rotary Facts

It takes our whole club to get this bulletin done – please email Luann with the date you would like to take the minutes.  I still have a few choice dates available.  Thanks.
