MEETING MINUTES July 20, 2006 at Inn Marin, Ignacio

Submitted by Tony Elshout

The meeting was called to order by President Larry Curtis.

Larry Levy led the Pledge.  Larry also did the invocation and prayed for our Rev. Stan Warner.  Stan has been diagnosed with cancer and is considering a 10-treatment session in Auburn to gain enough strength for possible radiation or chemotherapy.  Larry prayed for Stan’s speedy recovery and for peace in the Middle East.  President Larry’s thought for the day:  Do the right thing – and have fun.

Visiting Rotarians

Darcy Aman-Quinn – Novato and Laura O’Malley – San Rafael

Guests

Jack Marshall and Paul Hutcheson were guests of Table 4 and were later inducted into our club.

Special Recognition

President Larry then conducted the induction ceremony for Jack Marshall and Paul Hutcheson.

Mathew Finzen was introduced by Pauline Stuber as the last of our 3 Wulbern Scholars for 2005-2006.

Announcements

President Larry recognized Matt Pavone for taking the Monte Carlo chair, Bob Finer for taking over as Sergeant at Arms and Rich Ronsheimer as the Vocational chair.

Roland Fuette made an announcement about the first Friday Afternoon Club to be held at Dave “Spanky” Pitchford’s house, 5:30 PM July 28.

Art Wassermann advised that we have a GSE team going to Frankfurt, May 19 through June 19 and we are looking for candidates 25 to 40 years old and not a Rotarian.  The German GSE team of 5 will visit us April 4 through May 4.

Bob Carpenter announced that Dean Moser is looking forward to doing another Tahoe boating trip a year from August.

Marie Borders cautioned one and all about memorializing make-ups.  (Please note the date you made up or are paying for.)

Matt Pavone has named Peter Pelham, Rich Ronsheimer, Susan Gilmore, Rob Sundberg, Dean Moser, John Marshall, Wendy Irving, Luann Jackman, Jerry Ghirardo, Rocky Cosgrove and Daryl Weinroth as Monte Carlo sub-committee chairs.  There will be a Monte Carlo meeting every other Tuesday, 4:30 PM at Inn Marin

Laura O’Malley announced that the North Bay Shakespeare Co. will be presenting Hamlet at Hamilton Amphitheater Park on July 21-23 and 28-29

Fine Time

So many announcements were made that the Griz was kept in his lair for the 2nd straight week.  The Griz needs extra time next week to vent his displeasure of forced hibernation.

Speaker/Program

Today’s speaker was our very own Larry Levy speaking on employee background checks and the importance of every employer to do them.  This will potentially save them much angst in the future.  Every employer should do a background check consisting of at least using an application that contains a waiver granting the employer permission to contact former employers.  Former employers should be contacted before a job offer is made.  Stay away from the Human Resources department, as one will get little if anything from them.  Call early or late and one can generally get a management type person.  If a potential employee will handle money, go into private residences, work with children, drive a company vehicle, work along or work mainly with women, a criminal, credit or driving record check should be made

Raffle
