MEETING MINUTES January 5,
2006 at Inn Marin, Ignacio
Submitted by Suzanne
Bales
President-elect Larry Curtis opened the
meeting.
Dean Moser led us in the Pledge and Pastor
Stan had the thought for the day.
Visiting Rotarians
Darcy Quinn of
Novato Rotary joined us.
Guests
Paul Hutchinson,
the new publisher of the Novato Advance was Shelley Klaner’s guest
and Denis Pepin’s guest was his lovely wife Maxim.
Announcements
Pauline Stuber
mentioned the Wellborn scholarships
are available to any Marin County student graduating this year, $2500 per
year, $10000 for 4 years.
Bob Finer
reminded us that the Novato Rotary is
holding their Polenta Feed, Feb 4th, at Our Lady of Loreto, 530pm no host
bar, 630pm dinner $20 pp, no tickets at the door.
Fred Pfeiffer
announced the next Fireside is Feb 10th at Cacti Restaurant, $25pp, no
meeting on the 9th.
Stan Dennison
discussed the need for our club to
participate with San Marin High School's Academy career assisting
program. It would involve 13 Rotarians with 13 students. Career
information would be shared. This could be done via email but the need is
important for one on one.
Greg Chidlaw
mentioned the Marin Valentines Ball
on Feb 11th. This does benefit our own Susan Gilmore and the North
Bay Children’s Center. It does also sell out every year so be there or be
square!
Monte Carlo tickets will be available
no later than January 19th. Exciting prizes are confirmed: Harley
Davidson motorcycle, fishing trip to Costa Rica. Tickets will be $75pp.
Fine Time
Chuck Swensen is the new "bear" Various nicknames were shouted out,
including Cub, but the one that seems to have stuck is Daryl's
suggestion of "Bald Eagle". (Toward the end of the time Woodchuck was
being suggested.)
Bob Kane
was tagged for his birthday, but he
had already paid for his 80th previously.
Melissa Rinck
was honored for her 26th
anniversary, with a dinner in Mill Valley's Bungalow 44 – it used to be
the gas station where her husband-to-be worked – she said she bought lots
and lots of gas! Her husband also celebrated a birthday and the family
went to Hawaii for Christmas. Beats Christmas and the rain in Marin.
Suzanne Bales
was dinged for her husband's birthday
on December 19th. He is off fishing in Patagonia but she is getting even
with a Crystal cruise going to Mexico the following week.
Anna Levinson
celebrated her birthday with a tennis
bracelet. Question is do you play tennis with those?
Shelly
also had a birthday.
Stan Dennison
was fined for skiing last Thursday.
I’m not sure if it was fun or not, with a split boot entailing a last
minute boot rental (not easy for a guy like Stan) spills, and bad snow at
base, but much better snow up higher.
Fred
is a grandfather again. It seems to
have been a Monte Carlo evening start for the conception. What a true
concept of Rotary!!
Speaker/Program
Michael and Genevieve
from Keller Estates came to discuss their product. For those that
participated in the wine tour, they already know what a great winery it
is, right in our own back yard. The fun part was the actual sampling.
The talk was mainly questions and answers. Michael did mention that
Keller Estate does not buy other grapes but rather uses all their own.
They have several "clones" and so the chance to blend is still available.
The winery is off Lakeville Highway. While it is open to the public, it
is by appointment only. The club got to sample a La Cruz Chardonnay and a
2003 Pinot Noir.
Raffle
Luann
Jackman had her
ticket drawn however she did not have success in her marble drawing.
Meeting adjourned at 1:30pm.
