MEETING MINUTES January 12,
2006 at Inn Marin, Ignacio
Submitted by John
Tanko.
Past President Garry Gast opened the meeting.
Roland Fuette led us in the Pledge and
Pastor Stan had the thought for the day.
Visiting Rotarians
Darcy Quinn of
Novato Rotary joined us, as well as Dennis Hammond, also from the Novato
Rotary.
Guests
Bruce Moeller
introduced his guest, Thomas Justice, who heads up a bookkeeping company.
Announcements
Greg Chidlaw
discussed the current status of Monte
Carlo Night. The battle cry “STUBS BACK” was heard several times
throughout his presentation.
Monte Carlo Night “Loose End”
Round-up:
Tickets should be ready by next
Thursday.
Front of the auction book has been
decided. The auction book itself is still under construction.
Art work is needed from the corporate
sponsors ASAP!
Eight Interactors are needed;
Roland Fuette will handle this.
Laptops and server are SCREAMING!
With the new system, and proper registration of ticket holders, there
should be no line-ups at the doors this year.
Marie Borders
and John Tanko will work with Jerry Ghirardo to address the
Non-Profits.
Lori Gast
is handling the additional ads the program supplement.
Again, get your “STUBS BACK!” for
processing, so they can be entered into the system.
Fred Pfeiffer
announced that the date for the club anniversary party has been changed to
Saturday, April 29th, due to the Easter/Passover holidays.
The next Fireside is Feb 10th at
Cacti Restaurant, $25pp, no meeting on the 9th.
Stan Dennison
discussed the need for our club to
participate with San Marin High School's Academy career assisting
program. Twelve more Rotarians are needed to mentor. Career information
would be shared.
Fine Time
Chuck Swensen, our Woodchuck, was not in attendance at the meeting
today. Rob Sundberg stepped in (without the advantage of having
the necessary paperwork) leading us in “Dashboard Confessions.” He
simply asked for volunteers. Many stepped up to the plate once he
announced that fines will be half-price:
Bob Carpenter
fined himself for taking a day off of work, to go fly fishing in the
Trinity River. His trip was quite successful, as many fish were taken
(and returned) to the waters of the Trinity River.
Marie Borders
stood to announce the birthday of her
daughter.
Pauline Stuber
announced that her husband, John, is having a birthday. If I heard
correctly, he is planning on a trip to Argentina.
John Tanko
donated a buck for not wearing his Rotary pin.
Speaker/Program
Mike Parsons,
investigator for the Napa County District Attorney’s Office, talked about
identity theft. He discussed understanding it, protecting yourself from
it, and what to do if you are victimized by it. Thieves have acquired
information about people through such methods as stealing mail, insider
data, purse snatching, and even “dumpster diving,” which he said could be
considered an Olympic sport in the Napa area. Making sure to thoroughly
shred your trash (some criminals have been known to scotch tape single
shredded paper), and simply being aware of where your important
information is at all times is crucial to avoiding identity theft. To
recover from identity theft could take years. A few in attendance related
stories of personal experience with identity theft.
Raffle
Bruce
Moeller had his
ticket drawn however he did not have success in his marble drawing.
Meeting adjourned at 1:40pm.
