The first meeting second month of 2008 president, John, called the meeting to order at about 12:30.  Following the pledge (led by Bruce Moeller).  Larry Levy gave the thought of the day which used a lot of words to say “if you swim with sharks you might get bit.”

Announcements

-Larry Levy
will be calling on members to give vocational talks at Marin Oaks High School.  He also plans a trip to San Quentin in March or April (not sure what kind of vocation he is preparing them for).

- Paul Hutcheson gave the club a check for $250 as the kick back for the members advertising in the Rotary tab of the Novato Advance.

- Our Interact Club put in a pitch for their upcoming Fiesta Dinner.  This is to raise funds for their upcoming trip to Mexico to build houses for the otherwise homeless.  Mike Fish donated an airplane tour of the area for their auction.  Daryl Weinroth offered to donate a parachute, as a separate auction item.

-Mike Fish gave an update for Monte Carlo and pushed all to get going on auction items and tickets.  There are 350 tickets sold so far.

Irv Hirsch gave his 5 minute talk highlighting his career in law and his numerous offspring.

Fines:

- Anne Levinson celebrated her birthday for a fortnight.

- Gary Gast also had a birthday and spent the day on the Wine Train.

-Jim Picchi, Bill Doughty and Gary Gast all took time off to hit the slopes.  Daryl hit Picchi’s wallet.

- Catherine Munson tried to drum up sympathy by telling the fine master the birthday he was calling her on was her eightieth.  He retaliated not only with a fine but a dreadful rendition (aided by the rest of the tone deaf of the club) of Happy Birthday.

- Larry Curtis’s birthday involved something about Scrabble.  There’s got to be a better way to spend your birthday.  Playing Scrabble is almost as bad as golf.

- Which is how Kirk Hylan spent his birthday.

- Dean Moser bought a 500Sl Mercedes (are we sure there were no complications in his head surgery?).

- Bill Doughty, Larry Curtis, Marie Borders and Bruce Moeller all managed to get their inductions correct.

Speaker/Program

Roger Steiner introduced the GSE team.  This year they went to Germany, exchanging with District 1820 in Hessen.  The group was especially thankful to their employees for supporting them for this endeavor.
