MEETING MINUTES, February 25, 2010 at Inn Marin, Ignacio

                         February is “World Understanding and Peace Month”  

The 8th meeting of new calendar year, which is to say the final meeting of the 2nd month of the 1st half of the final half of the reign of Freddy the First was called to order by President Fred. 

The pledge was led by Catheryne DiPrete

Larry Levy gave an incredibly brief thought about getting ahead by teaching those below.

      MONTE CARLO GOES CRUISING   SATURDAY MARCH 13,2010

REMINDER:  Sell your tickets, gather Silent Auction
  items and sign up for jobs to
make our fundraiser a Success!!!

-       Ignite Ignacio is coming up. Rally all you pyromaniacs, it sounds like your kind of event.

-       Gary Butler:  Novato Leadership Community Production, Ignite Novato” with 18 Novato speakers (5 Min. ea.) will speak on various current and passionate topics.  Inn Marin, Thurs. 3-11-10, 7:00 p.m.  Free event, everyone welcome for a fun evening.

-       Tom Chesus requested sign-ups for canvassing areas in Novato for Monte Carlo Marketing and Auction items.  We are getting close to the deadline and to make our fundraising fruitful, we need everyone’s help!!

-       Notice to Rotarians - In order to stay at the hotel of your choice in
Montreal for the Rotary Convention please contact Fran O’Brien ASAP as she has been able to get choice hotels at good rates. It is possible that if you book a specific hotel thru Rotary you may be placed at a different one. This has happened in the past. Also, there are some nice cruises available that can be worked into the convention schedule. Toronto and Quebec City are wonderful add-ons.

-       Novato Interact Club Fundraiser:  Oscar goes to Haiti   Sunday, 3-7-10, 5:00 p.m., at Inn Marin.  Enjoy Dinner, Silent Auction and watch the Oscars, while helping the Interact Club raise $$ to buy 2 “Shelter Boxes” to send to Haiti Relief!!!  And, lots of fun!!   Tickets:  $15.00 adults,  $10.00 Students                     

-       Novato Interact Club’s  Spring Break Community Service  Project:  Rebuild trails in Muir Woods!  Go Dave Pitchford, Bob Carpenter and Interact Club!

-       Our visit to The USS Hornet is scheduled for 27 February. Barbie Hernandez is collecting $$

-       The next TGIF is planned for 2 April at Sandeep Karkal’s home.

-       Gary Gonser will be running set construction work parties on most weekends getting ready for Monte Carlo! Everyone needs to pitch in.  Next Party, Sunday February 21   10:00-4:00p.m., and Sat. Feb. 27th, 10-4:00 at 5420 Nave Dr.  Hamilton.

-       President Fred announced that there will be a gala for Catherine Munson for her being named one of Marin County’s Women of the year. The Marin Women’s Hall of Fame event is 20 March and tickets are $135.

-       Susanne Karch put in a pitch for the Mission San Rafael Club’s raffle. The grand prize is a 10 day cruise on Holland America line, anywhere they sail.

-       Debra Butler announced a fundraising effort for the Novato School Fuel Program. Several restaurants including Rickey’s will make a donation of 15% of your bill when you eat there.  See Gary Butler or John Marshall for School Fuel cards.                                                                                                                                                                  

Fine Time: 

-               Of all those who posed for our publicity shot for Monte Carlo event, only John Marshall wore his Rotary pin. The rest made a contribution.

-               Things are improving in the banking business. Don Cliver celebrated his wife, Tracy’s, birthday taking her out to dinner. This year he set his sights higher as they have moved up from Taco Bell to his whole mega bonus on the Olive Garden. Rickey’s is a long way off.

-               Catheryne DiPrete has managed to keep her stepson out of jail. He has settled for nursing school instead.

Program:   

Donna Baranski-Walker & Monica Quinn gave a talk on The Rebuilding Alliance, an organization which helps Rebuild War-Torn Communities, making them safe by changing policy to build justice and peace.  Donna has worked with Palestinians and Israelis to help overcome violence and rebuild hope by rebuilding schools, homes, playgrounds and community centers.
