MEETING MINUTES February 15, 2007 at Inn Marin, Ignacio

Submitted by Luann Jackman with special contributions and assistance from Matt Pavone

President Larry Curtis opened the meeting by welcoming everyone.

Bill Doughty led the pledge.  Larry Levy shared I Corinthians 13 in honor of all our Valentines.

President Larry also shared a Valentine thought for the day – “Love is the only thing that can be divided without being diminished”.

Visiting Rotarians

We had four visiting Rotarians from the Novato Club:  Don Byer, George Estes, Lisa Fish and Kay Jones.

Guests

There were many guests including Michael (not sure of his last name) (Jack Marshall), Michelle Moser (Dean Moser), Peter DiPrete and Chad Murchin (Catheryne DiPrete), Nancy Griffin (John Griffin), Betty Carpenter (Bob Carpenter), Jay Irving (Wendy Irving), Kathy Ronsheimer (Rich Ronsheimer), Lynn Pfeifer (Fred Pfeifer), JoAnn Kelly (Bill Kelly), Lisa Fish (Michael Fish), Vicki Pitchford (Dave Pitchford), Ramona Curtis (Larry Curtis) and Bernie Levinson (Anna Levinson).

Announcements

President Larry reported on the Comedy Club night at the Pacheco Plaza after dinner at Richey’s.  He also thanked Roland Fuette for coordinating this lovely evening.

Larry Levy reported on the students from Marin Oaks High School.  Members of our club have been talking with these young people about such topics as getting a job.  The group also took the youth to San Quentin where they met with a group of inmates who made quite an impression on these young people.  They plan to do this again.

Bob Carpenter thanked everyone who participated in the Interact Fiesta Night last Sunday.  He also shared that the President of the Novato Club Jim Spillman is going into the hospital for some tests – please keep him in your thoughts.

There is a work party this Saturday for Monte Carlo set.

Michael Fish shared about the Rotoplast annual dinner and raffle – see him for tickets.

We had our annual sharing of the Valentine’s Day poems:

President Larry, Dean Bernie, Rob (even though his wife was not present), Betty and Dave shared their special “love” thoughts.

The Monte Carlo auction books are ready and available to deliver to your guests.  Thank you Wendy – great job, it looks terrific.

Fine Time

The Griz (Rob Sundberg) recognized:

Catherine Munson for her birthday, which she spent in Palm Springs

Dave Pitchford for his anniversary (27), which they spent at the Awhanee Hotel in Yosemite

Roland Fuette for his induction on 2-11-99 (sponsor President Larry)

Don Wichman for his birthday and reflected back on the fact that he was 20 years old when he joined Rotary 38 years ago and who the younger members were then – he also honored us by donating a check to the Foundation for Project Build Hope

Tony Elshout was inducted into the club on 2-13-97 and his sponsor was Rich Ronsheimer

Bob and Betty Carpenter celebrated their 11th anniversary on Feb. 14 and spent time at the Little River Inn

Luann Jackman turned the big 50 on the 14th – enjoyed a spa day after the previous week being in beautiful Puerto Vallarta

Peter Pelham and Susan Gilmore were in the paper (same event – different photo) looking lovely at the Valentine’s Ball.

And Michael and Lisa Fish celebrated their 3000th day of wedded bliss.

Speaker/Program

Our speaker was David Ball of the Marin County District Attorney’s Office.  He is in the Intake Unit for Consumer Protection.  They refer cases to enforcement units and investigate and mediate cases.

They bring action on behalf of the Stare of California seeking restitution and civil penalties.  And best of all they haven’t cost the taxpayers a dime.

They are very involved in cases where individuals or businesses are trying scam folks, especially seniors or the very young.

Some suggestions for information:

§         snopes.com is a myth buster site

§         hoakskill.com also

§         everyone should get an annual copy of their credit report – you can do this on the internet

§         also send scam email to consumer@co.marin.ca.us

Raffle

Not sure who won the raffle.

Having FUN doing it!

Get ready for Monte Goes to Manhattan.  So to have a bit of fun – periodically there will be a Monte Carlo question of the week.  The answer will be in the following newsletter.

So your first bit of trivia is:   Way back in January the question was:  What great program was a major benefactor of Monte Carlo for a few years after Polio Plus?

The answer is:  The Dare Program

Member Spotlight –  Again way back in January the spotlight was:

This week let’s spotlight the only member (who completed the form) who was born in a very snowing state these days, Colorado – who do you think this person is?

This would be our very own President Larry!
