MEETING MINUTES, August 9, 2007 at Inn Marin, Ignacio

Submitted by Charles Swensen

August is membership month

The sixth meeting in the reign of our president, John, was called to order by John Marshall.  Following the pledge, Larry Levy gave a thought for the day.  Daryl added the sad news of the passing of Hale Knight’s wife, Christina.

Announcements

Presentations

-Erin Mann is one of the first of our Wulbern Scholars to graduate and gave a brief talk.  She completed her studies at UC Davis and wants to lobby for non-profit organizations.

-John Marshall noted that Novato Spirit’s receipt of our funding was picked up by the Novato Advance as well as the IJ.  He also warned us that an e-mail with the findings of the Fund Raising Task Force would be arriving soon.

-Fran O’Brien reminded us of membership month (wasn’t that July?).  She put out a call for any Rotary Magazines that had avoided the recycling bin is kept for her as it has an excellent article on Rotary Basics.

-Larry Levy called for those going to San Quentin to rally in the rear of the Inn Marin at 1345, 17 August to car pool to the prison (inmate parking is severely limited).

-Daryl Weinroth gave a medical lecture, complete with diagrams, to explain Dean Moser’s remarkable recovery.  I hope he knows more about law than he does about anatomy.

Bear Snacks, the bear feasted on the following:

-Pauline Stuber: for her birthday she went to San Diego to set up a wedding reception.  No gifts from John but he seems not to be in the dog house (got to learn this trick).

-Thomas Chesus also had a birthday.  Went out to dinner and home for desert (no elaboration provided).

We then all suffered through another rendition of ‘Happy Birthday.’

-Grizzly Sundberg  had an anniversary.  Left his life’s savings (~$1.75) in the nickel slots before his wife of 12 years dragged him out.

-Fran Obrien squeaked by on a split decision for defining Gallimarfry (this is so obscure that Word’s spell check won’t recognized it, however, Word Perfect does, GO MICROSOFT) as a collection.

Speaker/Program

Mike Cook of the Novato Rotaract club gave us an overview of their program and projects.  While they are affiliated with the Novato Club, he hinted that they could be lured away for a sufficient donation.  He highlighted as children’s park they have been working on.

Rantings of the Editor:

As anyone who tried to check out their bulletin last week discovered, I’m quite accomplished at hieroglyphics (I hate this Word program.  When you misspell something in Word Perfect, it gives you a bunch of options then and there).  MSN seems to have decided I’m a vile spammer and won’t let me blast out a message with an attachment.  It took the bulletin, converted it to binary and stuffed it into my message (if I understand what Kirk Hylan was trying to tell me).  Actually, it was all a calculation on my part that I would be judged incompetent and fired.  Instead, I get kudos for effort.  Effort doesn’t mean squat, its results that count!
