MEETING MINUTES, August 30, 2007 at Inn Marin, Ignacio Submitted by Charles Swensen August is Publicity month The seventh meeting (not counting firesides) in the reign of our president, John, was called to order by John Marshall. Following the pledge (led by Jack Marshall), President John gave a thought for the day since Larry Levy was detained during the tour of San Quentin. On a sadder note, President John announced that former member Doug Berlin has passed away.
Announcements Presentations President John Marshall, once more instructed us on his decree on the passing of sign-up sheets. He then passed out a list of board members and the various committees. Finally he announces that two members, Roberta DiPrete and Rob Sundberg have applied and been granted leaves of absence. Then he reminded those who have not responded that ballets are due concerning our fund raising activities. Rotaract is still working at San Jose Middle School and is looking for help for their next three work parties the 1st, 8th, & 15th of September. Pauline Stuber put in a pitch for contributions to the District 5150 disaster fund to aid the earthquake victims in Peru. Robert Eyes invited all to a golf tournament & dinner at the Novato Youth Center (I didn’t know they have a golf course) on 2 September. Shelley Klaner thanked everyone who had helped out at the Business showcase. She especially thanked Bob Finer for procuring the booth for our club and says we have several new prospects. Wendy Irving reminded us of the Labor Day at the Lake event. She could use volunteers for the second shift. This year we have the beer booth, free beer, that’s a no brainer folks. Bill Kelly gave brief on last week’s golf & fireside. It happened. On 28 September we have a TGIF at Kirk Hylan’s (if Bill can pick his pocket for the keys. Fred Pfiefer announced that Ignacio came in fifth of four in the botchi ball tournament. No injuries were suffered (until the next morning) Jerry Ghirardo presented three Paul Harris Fellowships. Marie Borders and Roland Fuette received their sapphire pins while everyone has lost count of Pauline Stuber’s level. The Bear is dead, long live the Minnow, -Daryl Weinroth has stepped in to nibble on the following: Catheryne DiPrete: had a two-fur, both a birthday and an anniversary. For her birthday, she got older and consoled herself with a trip to the spa. Steve Minutoli has made it through 41 years of marriage. They spent three days on an Italian pub crawl through the Napa Valley. Fran & Dick O’brien got his for his birthday and her spouse’s birthday. The vents were spent at the Novato Business Showcase (Shelly must have something hanging over them). Daryl apparently plans to maintain the hideous singing of the inevitable song. Spankey told a very poor joke an received an absurdly light fine for it. Jerry Ghirardo’s brother was featured in the North Bay Business Journal. Daryl was greeted by constant chatter for his own table who ignored his empty threats to fine them for insubordination. Speaker/Program District Governor Brian McLeran was introduced by one of his assistants, Pablo Castro. His talk centered on membership and the foundation. In the spirit of non-intervention, he also put in a pitch for keeping Monte Carlo. Upcoming Meetings August 16 Rotary Membership Month Club Assembly August 23 Dark, Fireside that evening August 30 District Governor, Brian McLaren September 6 Mary Neilan, Novato Assistant City Manager September 13 County Coroner September 20 Publicity Assembly September 27 Cliff Dochterman on membership All Rotarians are encouraged to think about speakers for meetings. They meet at the Inn Marin. They begin at 5:00 pm. Rantings of the Editor: No bulletin last week. I can’t drink and write at the same time. I think everyone had a good time.
