MEETING MINUTES: 2 August 2007 at Inn Marin, Ignacio

Submitted by Charles Swensen

The fifth meeting in the reign of our president, John, was called to order by John Marshall.

Spankey led the pledge and Bob Finer gave a thought for the day (we have insufficient room to
reprint it here).

Visiting Rotarians:

Robert Rene Novato Real Estate
Carol ??? Novato Sunrise Soils Engineering

Guests:

Mary Shinski of Novato Spirit gave a synopsis of her organization as she accepted a $600
donation for our club.

Announcements:

1. The sign-up system has again been revamped (refined?) With the addition of check-off
bubbles for the tables.

2. John reminded us a meeting on fund raising set for Tuesday, 7 August at 1500.

3. Steve Minutoli called for volunteers for the Saturday work party at Stafford Grove. Need
help, bring shovels and masonry tools. Be there at 0830.

4. Those attending the San Quentin tour notify Larry Levi. Plan to be at the main gate at
1430, 17 August. Why does President John assume we all know where that is?

5. Rich Ronsheimer reminded us of the 23 August fireside. Golf at 1230 (contact Daryl),
drinks at 1745, dinner ????

6. Mike Fish put in a plug for Botchy ball to raise funds for Roto-Plast. 26 August, 0900-1700. $37.50 for adults, $15 for kids.

7. Kirk Hylan gave an update on Dean’s progress. Plans to swim the Golden Gate in
September are still on.

8. Art Wasserman thanked Kirk for a $1000 donation to the foundation fund.

Victims of the Bear:

Daryl Weinroth had his 23rd anniversary and celebrated by taking the kids to southern
California. Informed us that would never happen again (neglected to mention if that was his
decision, Patrise’s or the kids). No gifts, no surprise.

John Marshall had a birthday yesterday. Got dragged to a motel room for a surprise party
(number of attendees not mentioned). We then treated ourselves to a dreadful rendition of
‘Happy Birthday.’

Shelley Klaner got her induction information correct.

Paul Hutchinson did also, but pitched in $5 to show that a ‘Full Weinroth’ does not afford full protection.

Fran O’Brien fended off the Bear with an incorrect but amusing definition for gravamen (I
haven’t a clue if that is the correct spelling.

Secret hand shaker: Rich Ronsheimer He awarded the free lunch to Charles Swensen, mostly
out of guilt for shanghaiing me into being editor.

Program:

Judy Arnold, County Supervisor for the 5th district gave a talk on the accomplishments of the
current session. These included:

1. Hiring an economic consultant.

2. Working with Sutter Health on their expansion in Novato

3. Pushing for state funding of flood control.

4. Allocating $850,000 for bike lanes from Ignacio to Terra Linda.

5. Creating a structurally sound, balanced budget.

6. Starting progress to get unfunded retirement liabilities under control (not sure how
this fits with number 5).

7. Negotiating intra-county bus service

8. Confronting County General Plan controversies

Rantings of the Editor:

Well, this is one down, forty-seven to go. In his strong arm tactics to get me to take this on, Rich
Ronsheimer warned me that I would be deluged with people begging for an opportunity to take
notes for me. Bribes will be accepted in determining your priority.

Please bare with my technical naivety. I will try to have some clip art in here by the next issue.
Also, be warned, my spelling can be so poor even spell check can’t always bail me out.
