Submitted by Suzanne Bales President Gary opened with Anna Levinson leading the pledge and Pastor Stan giving the invocation. Visiting Rotarians Bill Kelly after a few stumbles with an old list introduced the visiting Rotarians. It seems Novato Rotary loves our club - Dick Steinback, Phil Brown, Dennis Hammonds and Marty Wickenheiser. Guests Regarding guests, Susie Brown introduced the Interact members, who will be the program later in the meeting. John Marshall introduced Ricky's new catering sales manager Sue Westfry and visiting Rotarian Dick Steinback introduced wife Sue. Announcements Drum roll....... huge congratulations to Jerry Ghirado and family for baby boy James Edward. The club is expecting a visit and a new Paul Harris from Jerry. Tony Elshout requested workers for Labor Day at the Lake. We will be selling tickets this year. Talk about Novato Rotary providing the beer from their stand - which should get the volunteers! Michael Fish discussed Rotary Foundation. From July 1st until the event in San Carlos November 6th, for every $10 you contribution to the Rotary Foundation, you will receive a raffle ticket. If you contribute $100, you will receive 12 tickets this year. We average about $100 per member, Michael is challenging the club to get to $200 per member. A reminder - your polio plus donations also count toward raffle prices. This is a great chance to gain the matching grant from the Foundation so go to it! The dinner on November 6th is $85 with great food anticipated. Fred Pfeifer discussed the Bocce Ball tournament being held in San Rafael on September 19th - benefits RotaPlast, of which our own Michael Fish is chair. October 1st will be the next social at the home of Tony and Sally Elshout. October 9th wine tour - checks to Bob Carpenter no later than September 16th. 25 have signed up already and 35 is the max so get going! Money in Bob's hand equals confirmed reservation. Laura Wolburn turns 100 today. Her B day party is at Smith Ranch Care Center 2:30-4:00PM this Saturday. Hope some club members can attend. She will be presented with an honorary club membership, which is the least that can be done as a thank you for $30,000 in scholarship money! President Gary reminders: first time Paul Harris members, if you reach $750 in contributions there is a grant available for the $250 to bring you in at the magic $1,000. September 6th is the deadline. The District Conference will be in Asilmar next June – there will be a bit of a discount if you get signed up by the end of the month. She was in Calgary at the time attending a Soroptimist meeting but managed to fit in a visit to the 28 member Calgary Olympic Rotary Club. Shelly Klaner’s birthday was on Aug 14th - something about Susie helping her celebrate -it was so much fun that everyone had to sleep over at Shelly's house - highway patrol happy to hear that! Both media darlings Susan Gilmore and Luann Jackman celebrated for news articles. Susan for opening of North Bay Children’s Center (all come on down for ribbon cutting ceremony Sept 23rd) and Luann in the SF Business Times commenting on prop 72 (not 47).
