MEETING MINUTES August 11, 2005 at Inn Marin, Ignacio

President Tony Elshout opened the meeting at 12:24 P.M. and John Tanko led us in the pledge of allegiance.

The open thought was give by Roland Fuette who shared with us that Jim Picchi’s Dad passed away 8/10/05.  We will all keep Jim and his family in our thoughts.

Announcements

Fred Pfeiffer:            Fireside, Wednesday, 8/17/05 at Cacti.  The Club will be dark at the usual meeting time on Thursday, 8/18. 

Michael Fish:            There will be a reception at Mike Fish’s home in Bel Marin Keys on Monday, 8/15, beginning at 5:00 PM to kick off the work of the International Service Committee. 

The 3rd Annual District Rotaplast Bocce Ball Tournament will be held on Sunday, 8/28/05, from 9 AM to 5 PM, at the San Rafael Bocce Ball Courts at 550 “B” Street in San Rafael.  The cost is $35 per person. 

Wendy Irving:            The funeral for Wendy’s Uncle, Mike Dolan of the Novato Club, will be held Friday, 8/19/05 at 9:00 AM at St. Rafael’s Church.  There will be a get together at Wendy’s home afterwards. 

Denis Pepin:            The annual wine tour will take place on 10/22/05, beginning with a 9:00 AM departure from Novato.  The cost is $65 per person, which includes dinner.  About 30 of the 40 spots have been filled. 

Larry Curtis:            Median strip clean-up event at the Ignacio median strip on Saturday, 8/13/05 at 9:00 AM. 

Tony Elshout:            Relayed “thank you” notes from the Soroptimist Club for our donation of wine goblets, from the recent British visitor from the Bournemouth, England Rotary Club for our hospitality during his visit, and from the Novato Fire Foundation for our Club’s recent grant of $500 for the local Water Squirts Club.     

Fine Time

Darryl Weinroth gave recognition (and assessed fines) to Tony Elshout for his wedding anniversary and his wife Sally's birthday, and to Roland Fuette for his wife’s birthday. Marie Border self-reported her son Erick’s 9th birthday.

Speaker

John Potocny and John Williams from the Novato Economic Development Commission.  A commission of volunteers who serve at the pleasure of the City Council to advise the Council on economic development issues affecting Novato.  The topic was the “Economic Development Strategy” for the City of Novato. 

John Tanko won the Raffle.

Ignacio Rotary Board meetings are the 2nd Wednesday of the month.  They meet at the Bank of Marin located at 378 Bel Marin Keys Blvd.  They begin at 5 pm.

Objectives of Tajikistan Children’s Airlift

  • Meet Tajikistan Rotarians and U.S. Gov. Officials
  • Document safe arrival of pharmaceuticals
  • Deliver Hope and Hugs along with desperately needed supplies to orphanages
  • Young girls (60) --- ages  7yrs- 16yrs Orphaned
  • Personally deliver Funds for 30 Bunk Beds for the Girls
  • Provide medical education and medical supplies
  • Work party cleanup of quarters

Mission Statement 

To mobilize resources to improve health and provide medical education and foster development of Family Medicine Worldwide. 

My request from 5150 Rotary District:I would like to receive Matching Funds for what I am able to secure from my visit to each club. 

Budget  $7500.00

  • $ 250.00 per bunk bed from with Tajikistan
  • 30 Bunk beds needed for 60 Street Girls
  • Some money from Novato Club is allocated
  • I will be covering all my own expenses

Sarah is Leaving Oct 12th and Will Carry Funds.  Please let me take a part of PU with me to this poorest of poor countries. I will be bring back photos and documenting our trip. 

I am paying for my own expenses.  My fellow Rotary club member Dr. John Elloway has been involved with this project around the world for 13yrs.I will be representing Novato Rotary fellow Americans and now Pacific Union I invite you to join me by Your donations to lift up the Refugee and Vulnerable Citizens of Tajikistan.
